Starting a successful Band has a lot of similarities as compared to starting a successful company. The key decisions and the culture that goes into the band is the same as that of a startup. There’s a lot of things that one can learn from a successful band as well. The Beatles, founded back in 1960 in UK has went on to achieve 9 Grammy awards and 3 Brit Awards apart from their huge following and hundreds of millions of music sales.

Here are the six of the best things you can learn from ‘The Beatles’ about starting your company.

Build Desire first, You’ll go BIG

Desire for the services you offer is what attracts more followers and increases one’s likeness. The Beatles did not start touring the entire world just after a week after they formed. Instead they played back and forth between Liverpool, England, Germany for two years building a fan base. Finding people who liked their music. Or their look. Or their style. First and foremost, know who support or like you and what you have to offer.

Even way before they went big, they honed their writing abilities, musicianship, and their stage act. Only after two years of playing in front of a slowly growing group of fans did they launch by recording an album and heading out on tour.

Work on building your Fan Base first and you will definitely know where you are headed to.

Don’t make it JUST about Money, Do what you LOVE

The founding members of The Beatles – Paul McCartney and John Lenon used to skip school and gather around to hone their music writing skills. The time when most of the similar aged kids used to skip classes either to play video games or smoke. They did it for the love of music, not for the love of fame or money.

Do what you love to do and don’t care about the fame and money. Whatever you may be doing, no matter how significant, if you’re good at something you will become successful in it.

In a startup situation, it is not a must for you to like your Idea, but atleast you should like the startup environment, working in a startup with low resources. Your likeness of  the competition in a startup is what matters the most. If that is not present, you’d be doomed with failure soon.

Get Feedback from time to time

In the early 1957, ‘The Beatles’, then playing under different names, Paul McCartney and John Lennon were teenagers aged 15 and 16. They used to perform a lot in front of a small group whenever possible. So it gave a chance for them to prioritize the good and hit songs from the duds.

They used to get feedback from the crowd on whatever they perform and it helped them a lot to know what they were doing right and what wrong. Get feedback from those whom you trust from time to time, it will help you in the long run.

So get out from your bedrooms or basements and meet out new people and potential customers and get to know them better. Get feedback on your work and see your business flourish, by fixing your mistakes, learn from them and move on.

Work Harder

There’s no limit for what you can do. Work Hard is one thing you might hear from everyone, but you need to work harder than what you’re doing if you’re not satisfied with the results. Working smarter along with hard work is also a must. The Beatles used to spend months of sleepless nights for working out on their music and practicing a lot.

Practice sure does make a man perfect and you need to extend your working hours to achieve something great. These were eight-hour sets, and they would reportedly take uppers to maintain their energy on stage. Not only was it grueling work, but the sheer volume of material they had to learn to play eight hours worth of music is mind-boggling.

Work Together

Do not try to make it a one man show. The task of starting a single founder company is a nightmare. Not that you can’t do it, but the outcomes of it on your personal physical and mental abilities. The Beatles was initially founded by two of them and later joined by more.

Imagine working as a single founder of a startup, handling almost everything including sales, marketing, idea, execution, programming/prototyping, debugging and so on.. It is always better to gather one or two similar interested and talented co-founders to work on your project. You can gather more as you go and grow.

YOU are Beautiful

No matter what you do YOU are YOU. You are unique, you are beautiful and you can do what you aspire to do. Everyone is unique and accept and be happy for what you are. The personal likeness of you loving yourself has a great positive effect for your mental peace and balance.

The lyrics of this inspirational song from The Beatles says it all:

“The sun is up, the sky is blue
It’s beautiful and so are you”

No matter where you end up or what you do, be happy for yourself and always strive for the better.

Long Live ‘The Beatles’ and your music by touching hearts of millions.
